Why LinuxTax?

A first-class Linux application

Native, and runs on all major distributions such as Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, openSUSE, and Arch.

Indefinite backward compatibility

LinuxTax runs on every release of Windows from 7 onward, and on Linux distributions going back to LTS releases from a decade ago. Tax season should never be the reason you have to replace working hardware or relearn an operating system.

Offline by design

Your return is a file on your disk, encrypted with a passphrase you choose. The only thing that ever crosses the network is the CRA NETFILE submission — and only when you press the button.

“Free” online filers aren't really free

Cloud-based “free” and even paid tax services pay their bills by selling leads, sharing data with affiliates, and will use your sensitive financial data to advertise and sell to you.

Every province, including Quebec

Full federal T1 General plus all ten provincial returns — ON, QC, BC, AB, SK, MB, NB, NS, PE, and NL — with full TP-1.D-V coverage for Quebec including Schedules A through V where applicable. Most desktop tax tools for Linux skip Quebec. LinuxTax doesn't.

Made in Canada

LinuxTax is a small project made in the province of Quebec.
